Internet Use
Policy
All
patrons accessing the Internet through the use of the Library’s public
access computers are required to comply with the following Internet Use
Policy.
In
response to advances in technology and the ever changing informational needs
of our community, the Copiague Memorial Public Library endeavors to develop
collections, resources, and services that meet the cultural, informational,
educational, and recreational needs of our diverse community.
It is within this context that the Copiague Memorial Public Library
offers access to the Internet.
The
Internet is a global communications network and information resource.
The Copiague Memorial Public Library does not monitor and has no
control over the information accessed through this resource.
The Library does not assume responsibility for the accuracy, quality,
or currency of Internet information. The
Internet may contain information of a controversial or offensive nature.
The determination of viability and usefulness of Internet information
falls solely upon the patron.
Use
of Library Internet access computers to display or disseminate sexually
explicit or sexually suggestive (obscene/pornographic) material is strictly
prohibited. Violators will be
removed from the Library building and will have their Library privileges
revoked.
The
Library does not act in loco parentis, the Library does not “assume,
abrogate, or overrule the rights and responsibilities of parents or legal
guardians,” and parents or legal guardians who do not want their children
to have access to certain Library services, materials or facilities should
so advise their children. Libraries
and governing bodies cannot assume the role of parents or the functions of
parental authority in the private relationship between parent and child.
Patrons under 18 years of age will not be given access to the Internet
without the supervision of a parent or guardian, unless said parent or
guardian signs the parental consent form authorizing the Library to permit a
minor access to the Internet without direct supervision.
Registered
Library patrons in good standing may apply for a SuffolkNet Internet account
via the Copiague Memorial Public Library.
The person who applied and in whose name the account and password
have been issued is responsible at all times for it’s proper use and must
comply with the Acceptable Use Policy
for the SuffolkWeb Account.
All
